FTC Cracks Down on Get Rich Quick Schemes

Shortcuts to Internet Millions

This is interesting news.

The FTC just made one swoop and took the biggest “get rich quick” to court.  The claim states that these people misled consumers and charged their credit card without fully disclosing the terms, mislead consumers, and bilked them out of thousands of dollars. (to the tune of 300 million+)

Three of the biggest ones that were charged are:

John Beck’s Free and Clear Real Estate Program

Jeff Paul’s Shortcut to Internet Millions

John Alexander’s Real Estate Riches in 14 Days

You may have seen these or even bought these.  I think they did two things that were “questionable” in the FTC charge:

1)  They dropped customers in a forced continuity program without disclosing the terms, and telemarketed their coaching program to people who repeatedly asked to be removed.  BIG MISTAKE!

2)  They also made income claims.

The new “rules” of advertising say that even if you have made money – you cannot list an amount because that misleads people to think that they can make the same kind of money.  Throw in thousands of complaints – and you have the FTC on your backs.
