Research Sucks!

Step 2: A Little Bit of Research
Yesterday, I was hanging out with a good friend of mine who just happens to be a SuperAffiliate and a well-known guru. He wants to remain anonymous (for fear of us all laughing at him!) We were hanging out and he was telling me a story about when he was platform speaking. At the end of the story, I was laughing so hard that tears were rolling, my stomach was hurting and my throat was sore. It was that type of never-ending laugh, and when I tell the story – you’ll see why.
This guru has told me many stories about how timing is everything, and how a little bit of wrong timing makes for a hilarious story (and moral to the story). So this guru was platform selling back in the 1990′s. Platform selling is when you get invited for a Super Success Seminar for $49 and you get to see legends like Colin Powell and Zig Ziglar speak. BUT in between legends, you have Platform Sellers. They get on. They tell you about an amazing, money-making system that they’ve created that’s making money hand over fist. You can spend months trying to copy this system for yourself, or I just so happen to have 10 spots available for an outrageous price. BUT in order for you to be one of the ten, you have to beat me to the back of the room. So everyone rushes to the back to get one of the 10 spots. It’s a great way to make fast cash if you have a system that works, and it’s great money for an hour’s worth of work.
So my friend is speaking at one of these Super Success Seminars when Ted Thomas gets on. Ted Thomas is a sharp dressed man. He has the full piece suit complete with cufflinks, suspenders, and expensive Italian shoes. He’s the ultimate throwback to the 1970′s – and he’s still got it today. So Ted Thomas goes on, and he kills. Everyone races to the back of the room, and he goes off a champion among sales people. The ultimate Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross.
So it’s my friend’s turn: He entertains. He has Powerpoint Presentations with fancy graphics. He’s full of energy. His pitch is spot on, but when it comes time for the people to race to the back of the room. Four people get up, and one makes a beeline for the bathroom. He bombs big time.
It was the suit. It had to be the suit. Ted Thomas converted so many people because he was dressed to the nines.
The next Super Success Seminar rolled around, and my friend was determined to be the Roma – the superstud salesman who grabs all the buyers in the room and walks away with “I’m the best!” comments from his peers. Sales people know what I’m talking about, because there is this unspoken look that everyone gives each other. And everyone circles the “hangout” room trying to get a glimpse of everyone’s offers.
So my friend shows up with his best three piece suit on. He’s dressed to kill. Fancy Italian Suit. Everyone in the “hangout” room is eyeing him thinking “what are you selling?” My friend is thinking, “I’m the Ted Thomas today! I’m going to outsell the others, convert the most buyers, and walk away with the “I’m better than you” award. This is an award that is only spoken about one on one with other guru’s. “Did you see who sold out the room?” Yeah – He gets the “I’m better than you” award.. DAMN HIM!
There was one slight problem.
The Super Success Seminar was called: The Blue Jeans Millionaire Seminar. All the guru’s wore blue jeans to this event.
Everyone but my friend who wore a Fancy Italian Suit at a Blue Jeans Event. The result: Ted Thomas got the “I’m better than you” award and my friend got the “What were you thinking” award.
The moral of the story:
1) Research.. if you do a little research, you can find a winning product that you can promote today and turn it into a $100,000 a year winner.
2) Offer.. it’s not the clothes that convert the most, it’s the offer! If the offer is HOT, you can wear a black garbage bag and still convert the room.
And now, you know what one of the most important parts to this whole process is: RESEARCH! Next week, I’ll try to put “Research” into an easy formula so you know if you have a winning product. I have spent over 1.5 Million Dollars in the past five years, and SuperAffiliate.com can easily spot a winner. You just have to know what to look for.. Stay tuned for more on: Research.
