Hi there.

This is Kit Elliott with SuperAffiliate.com. It’s a great day for online profits, and I’m really stoked about using the new “affiliate” linking strategy that got me listed on page 1 of Google in 2 days.

First, let’s review the five basic steps of affiliate marketing:

Keyword Research
Profitable Niche
Build WordPress (for SEO purposes)
Create 3 Posts
Get Traffic

For most people I run into – it’s the first and last step that cause a lot of “dropouts” or “you lost me” blank stares. That’s fine. I created two rule of thumbs for step one and found a great new affiliate tool for the last step..

Keyword Research (Basic Rule of Thumb)

1. If the keyword is getting 1,000 to 10,000 searches per month.
2. If the competition has less than 70,000 pages competing for that keyword in quotes. I really try to stick to less than 20,000 pages. The really odd thing – YOU KNOW IT WHEN YOU FIND A WINNER!

Let’s say you found a keyword for your niche that meets both. You have some affiliate products you want to promote. You quickly adopt the Build WordPress. I have video instructions on how to build a WordPress..

Create three posts concentrating on the keyword you want to target. Make sure this keyword is in the headline. It’s very simple. Name your graphics that keyword.. tag the post with those keywords.. and fill in your SEO All in One Plugin with those keywords.

Then, off to the last step: GET TRAFFIC!

This is the dropoff for most people, because it feels tedious.. it feels time consuming.. because you do some actions, and you don’t see immediate results.. What I’m about to show you – you should see results in 2 days.

I’ve been testing it out for different keywords, and I find that I get page one of Google within 2 days! (this is no exaggeration!)

What is the service?

Two services actually..

Automatic Submissions (submits your articles, your videos, your blog posts, your RSS feeds, and re-submits links to those articles, those videos, those submission links and then, pings those links..)

The service is called SENuke, and you can try it out for free for 7 days. I get credit for any signups so try it out for 7 days, and if it works for you like it does for me – then you’ll stick with it. If you don’t like it, you didn’t lose any money.

Click Here for the 7 Day Trial Offer

The second service is really cool.

I spent some time writing articles, but I’ve heard that Google is starting to slap “repeat” content that they find on all the article sites. The solution – simple software that rewrites that article using synonyms. It’s called Content Boss!

I use Content Boss, and then, submit my article using SENuke.. and then, I ping all the links that they create for me.

Two things happened:

SENuke keeps track of all those links. That would be a nightmare. The URL manager is a great tool so you can submit your article and your “rewritten” articles.. plus it keeps track of all those links.

What can you do with those links?

You can create a “all in one” RSS feed! And submit that link to RSS directories.. and ping it… using what?

You guessed it – SENuke!

There are no excuses now for affiliate marketing. REALLY? REALLY! REALLY? I could go on and on and on, but I’ll let you try the service out for 7 days.. I’d be interested to hear feedback from you.. Please leave your comments.

Right now one of the best ways to boost your website’s organic search engine page ranking is start an external link campaign. These are links originating from another site connecting back to your site.

Do you know what links you already have? Your analytics application is a good place to start. If it doesn’t show incoming links, then try http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com and www.alexa.com.

Next, review your competitor’s sites for ideas on external links applicable to your site. A site with over a hundred relevant links will rank much higher than a similar site with only three links. Not only do the links rate high with search engine crawlers, it obviously draws more traffic to your site from many other sites rather than just through search engine queries.

Think about existing relationships with associations and other membership organizations and get listed in the directories and in relevant content areas of those sites. Rather than a passive listing, make sure the organization creates a link back to the best page on your site. The link does not have to connect to your home page. Get creative.

Depending on the context in which your links appear (directory vs. web content), see if other sites will let you use keywords for the link. Avoid the dreaded Click here link as these will not be helpful with organic search results.

Articles and press releases posted on other sites, linking back to your site, allow good quality links and the ability to include keyword oriented links within relevant content. If you don’t have an electronic media relations program in place, today is a great day to begin.

High quality directory submissions such as Yahoo! business directory and dmoz.org carry a lot of weight with search engines.

Be discerning when you choose websites and directories for your linking campaign. Some search engine optimization services will offer to create hundreds of links for you, but they are not high quality. Many of the links will be to link farms—sites that exist only for the sake of posting links to other site. External links should be developed one by one and, like other elements of your business strategy, they must add to your overall goals and objectives. Bringing hundreds or thousands of unqualified prospects to your site, does nothing to further your success. You want qualified prospects coming to your site to take action.

If you look at enough websites, and this may be the case for yours as well, you’ll find the home page tends to be show pieces given little attention since the original design. Yet, for most websites, the home page is what gets a majority of the site’s traffic.

Arriving at your site either from an organic listing or a pay-per click ad, will prospects immediately recognize your expertise? Will they immediately understand how to engage with the site as well as the call to action (what they should do once they get to the page)?

Assess your site and determine if it makes one of more these five lethal mistakes when it comes to design and content:

Design and content assume prospects know what your site offers. It’s astounding how many “branded” sites forget to make the selling proposition and call to action clear.

The site offers no methods for building credibility. Either more assumptions are made about what prospects are supposed to know about the company before they arrive at the site or the marketing folks plain forgot to include valuable information such as customer testimonials on the home page. Often these are relegated to some other page. Why hide them? Let the prospect get a glimpse of what other customers have to say about their experiences.

The content is stale and has not been changed in months or even years. If you home page doesn’t offer fresh content at least monthly, then think about how to incorporate the latest news about the company, events or other continually changing types of content. Search engines like fresh content.

Design gets in the way of selling or taking action. The home page may be cluttered, not intuitive or not take advantage of proven design placement. The golden triangle is the most valuable web page real estate encompassing the left upper corner, extending down the left side and up to the right corner, thus making a triangle. Your most important information and call to action (such as a newsletter sign up or free report download) should be located within the triangle.

Anything clever, funny or cute that misses the mark and makes the selling or navigation harder than it needs to be will dissuade prospects for reading on or clicking deeper into your site

Breathe life into a site suffering from lethal mistakes with these five suggestions:

If appropriate for your site, include a photo and short bio in the top left corner.

Include some vehicle for capturing emails in the top right hand corner. This can be for a monthly e-newsletter, free report, or other incentive to help build an email list.

All home pages should have a headline. It should make your selling proposition clear and be informative.

Content should articulate one or two main points and benefits you want a prospect to know right away.

It is essential to bring fresh content to the home page as frequently as possible. There is simply too much technology available to help you accomplish this goal.

Include testimonials along the left (preferable) or right hand column to help build credibility.

The take-away from this article: design important elements into the golden triangle and change your home page as frequently as possible.

When a website is created, a few drafts of each page are written the final draft is checked and approved, and then it’s uploaded to the website. There the writing sits, unchanging, as if it were carved in stone.

But that’s not right and it’s certainly not good search engine optimization (SEO). The dynamics around each page will always be changing:

New pages will be linked to existing pages.

Information may have become dated or there is better information to offer in its place.

You may think of better ways to express the topical ideas.

The addition of new pages to the site may shift the purpose or role of other pages.

If you’re writing sites for yourself …

If you’re writing your own websites, review your pages from time to time and consider the shifting relationships between connected pages, old and new. You’ll almost always find a way to make improvements. A shift in emphasis. The addition or deletion of links. A change in the text used for links.

Also, keep an eye on what is happening outside of your website. Has there been a shift in the number and kind of sites linking to your pages? Should that lead to some changes in what you first wrote?

And how about keywords? Are the phrases that worked well for you when you first wrote the page now a little out of date? Are there new buzzwords being used? Are new or better phrases becoming more popular? As the language shifts and changes in the universe of sites that link to your site, you may want to edit some of the titles, headings, and text you first wrote.

If you’re writing for an employer or as a freelancer …

If you work for an employer, you should raise your hand and let your managers know when web pages need to be updated. You’ll need to put a review system in place. You need to allocate time to do this and someone needs to be tasked with keeping his or her finger on the pulse of your most important pages. Are they working as hard as they can? Are they still relevant? Is the information current or can it be updated?

If you work as a freelancer, here is an opportunity to expand on every new project. Grow the scope of your relationship with your client by pointing out the need to have someone watch over the site and suggest updates and revisions as they become necessary or even just desirable. And, sometimes one page can turn into a several page assignment by keeping search engine optimization techniques in mind.

Concluding thoughts …

Websites can become dated quite quickly. Relationships between pages can lose their purpose and their relevance. Some pages need to be replaced, others need to be updated or simply improved, sometimes in minor but important ways.

A website is dynamic, always, meaning there never is a final draft, not for any page.

Creating good and efficient internal links throughout web content is probably one of the most neglected areas of search engine optimization. It’s a small, but powerful detail to help both search engine crawlers and your website visitors get around your site with ease and go deeper into your site to explore more of your content.

Moves crawlers deeper into your site

When search engine crawlers visit your site, they index individual pages and try to find clues about the pages. One way to offer up this information is creating text links describing the destination. For instance, a click here link offers no new information to a crawler, while SEO copywriting tells the search engine what kind of information it is likely to expect when the link is followed. Not only is the text link helpful to the crawlers, but to your site visitors as well. Text links are both crawler friendly and visitor friendly. What more could you ask for?

The most neglected place for text links is the navigation menu. Take a look at several websites as well as your own and what do you see for navigation links? Probably something like this: Products, Services, Resources, Contact. Creating informative navigational links such as Electronic Marketing Products and SEO Copywriting gives the search engine crawlers and your visitors a little more to work with when trying to find information on your site.

Find as many opportunities as you can to create meaningful text links throughout your site to lead crawlers and visitors deeper into your rich content. Avoid the dreaded Click here link.

Improves organic search engine rankings

While internal text links won’t rocket your website up the search engine rankings immediately, it is one more detail you can implement to continually improve your search engine optimization efforts and rise above your competitors. Many websites suffer from internal linking neglect by not having enough or by allowing broken links to remain.

Leave breadcrumbs

If your website is more than three levels of navigation deep, meaning a visitor can go at least three pages into a section, then consider using breadcrumb links to help aid navigation within the site.

Breadcrumbs, or a trail of links, help users understand the page they are on in relation to the rest of the site and it allows them to go back through the trail. Some breadcrumbs even capture the visitors personal viewing history rather than relying on the back button to retrace steps to a previously visited page.

Here’s an example of hierarchical breadcrumbs. This type of trail shows the structure of a website section and the path back to the main page of the section.

Products 4 Digital cameras 4 Nikon 4 D60 Digital SLR Camera

The second type of trail link is Path breadcrumbs showing the path actually taken to the destination page, which allows visitors to retrace their steps back down the trail.

Internal linking is an attention to detail that help move your site up the organic search rankings. Continually add links, improve the meaningfulness of the links and make sure all are operable.

3 reasons to create internal website links

3) Keywords should not be repeated more than four to six times per 350 words of content.

4) The most important meta tag is the page title, which should be no more than six or seven words and should begin with the keywords you’re optimizing.

5) 22 percent of searches include four or more words. In January 2009 searches averaging five or more words increased 10 percent compared with searches conducted in 2008. Optimizing content for larger search strings is an increasing trend. Source: Hitwise

6) Google robots like content-rich information such as newsletters, reports, articles, white papers, glossaries, FAQs, Blogs, press releases, tools (calculators, quizzes), how-to tips, case studies, guides and forums. Boost your rankings by bulking up your content.

7) Fresh content is favored over outdated or unchanged information. Quick ways to add new content include testimonials, product reviews, blogs, or forums. Make new content is optimized as much as possible.

8) High quality external links to your site help boost your organic ranking. Yahoo has the most well-known directory. Look for relevant directories and other websites with a PageRank and Alexa rank better than your own.

9) Statistics show your website’s About Us page will be one of the most clicked on pages of the entire site. Spend plenty of time developing this page, providing substantial and credible information to reassure visitors they are buying from a reputable company or individual.

10) Tightly written web pages will have higher organic rankings than pages covering multiple topics. Create pages to cover only one topic, make it obvious to visitors that the page focuses on the specific topic and make sure search engines recognize the individual page is about the topic. Optimizing does not have to occur on a website-wide basis. Optimizing individual pages gives more opportunities for higher rankings.

Search engine optimization (SEO) can be complex and intricate, but don’t stress out by trying to do everything at once. Simply understand the basics, make a plan and begin with the SEO activities likely to have the greatest impact on your organic search results.

You’ve taken the time to get online either as a pure ecommerce site or the extension of a brick and mortar company. The site looks great, everything is working. You may have even invested in email campaigns, pay-per-click ads and some offline advertising. But what happens once prospects get to your site?

Of all the business skills you can master, persuasive marketing is the one that will return more on your investment than almost any other expense.

Take a look at marketing from the customer’s perspective. Most people buy things, not because they need them, but because they want them. The secret to selling, however, is a sales pitch so strong the desire to buy feels more like a need than a want.

So, how do you create strong sales messages to drive your customers to your online shopping cart?

To attract even lukewarm prospects, you have to make a big promise and make it vivid. Help your prospects see the benefits of buying your product or service and help them visualize how it will make their lives better, easier, more fun or whatever you’re offering them. Turn the features into irresistible benefits.

Next, support your promise with proof. This is where many marketers start to lose their prospects because once drawn in, there isn’t enough to keep the prospect engaged in the sale. Why should someone buy from you? What facts, evidence or testimonials do you have to support a purchase decision?

Are you using basic persuasion principles on your website? Does your home page start to set up a sale right away by assuring prospects they’ve come to the right place? Does your home page help draw them further into the site? Does every product have its own sales page detailing the benefits, the promise and a risk-free guarantee? Does every message on your site move prospects closer to a sale?

When I arrive on a client’s site, I make an immediate assessment of what a prospect will experience. Will they understand what’s even being sold or what they’re supposed to do once they get there? One site I consulted on was for a new lodging company that had a unique selling proposition. The owners were sold a beautiful website by a highly credentialed ad agency. The site was the epitome of a classy branding campaign. As soon as I got on the site, however, I noticed a major flaw. No where on the home page did the content, navigation or graphics indicate it was a lodging company.

This was a new company with a different approach to nightly lodging. How much effort do you think prospects, even qualified ones, will put into figuring out why they should care? Zero. They will put no effort into figuring out the new concept when what they’re looking for is reasonably priced lodging for a week’s vacation. I’d rather build a simple site that leaves no doubt in the prospects’ minds than a gorgeous site that is confusing.

The most important skill you can focus on right now to improve your electronic marketing efforts is writing more powerful website content incorporating the basics of persuasion. Go through your site with the eyes of your prospects. Ask yourself, “Why would someone care about this statement or this message?’ “Have we really positioned ourselves in the most desirable way so the prospect simply feels the need to buy?” “Do we talk features instead of benefits?” “Are the benefits strong enough to entice someone to buy?”

If your content isn’t powerfully persuasive, then keep at it until you really understand your prospects and can deliver messages so appealing your prospects feel they must buy what you’re offering.

In a study conducted by seomoz.org, 37 leaders in search engine optimization voted on factors negatively and positively impacting organic search engine rankings. There is a lot of mention made of ways to increase search engine rankings, but far less written about things consciously or inadvertently done to negatively impact rankings.

According to the experts, here are the top five things that prevent higher rankings or send your current rankings into the tank.

Duplicate content: The jury is out as to the extent duplicate content affects site rankings, but it can range from simply not getting indexed to a huge problem. Duplicate content along, may not impact rankings, but it could signal other bad behavior. Unique, high quality should be your goal if you’re serious about conducting business on the Internet.

Low quality links: Experts agree that a slew of poor quality links can hurt your rankings. Many of the link farms have been cleaned up, some have gone legitimate, but the fact is fewer high quality links will enhance your rankings quicker than a laundry list of low quality links.

Duplicate Titles and Meta Tags: Duplicate titles and Meta tags on every page of your site will suppress organic rankings. It discourages crawlers from continuing deeper into your site to index more pages. With this simple fix, you may see a boost in rankings.

Server is down: A website down for 48 consecutive hours will suffer with the search engines. A site frequently down for sporadic periods may also suffer, but “frequent” is the operative word. If your site is frequently down, it’s time to get a new hosting company!

Overused keywords: Sites excessively using keywords will either be ignored or suffer with lower rankings. Trying to trick the crawlers to rank you higher by purposefully stuffing content with keywords is not a winning strategy. Use keywords as often as they make sense for the reader.

But, don’t get bogged down with a multitude of stats. Pay attention to key metrics and, very importantly, take action based on your analysis.

Presumably, you have a statistical analysis package for your website or have loaded the script for Google Analytics. You can’t make improvements without knowing about the traffic coming to your site and what they do once they arrive.

Key metrics include:

Direct traffic: This is traffic arriving at your site by typing in your URL. Some analytics include bookmarks in this data and others show it separately. No matter, this visitor arrived directly without using a search engine or external link to get to your site. For the most part, these are not new visitors. If, however, your data shows you are getting new visitors as a result of direct traffic, then it means you are doing a good job branding your site offline. If your URL is easy to remember or is publicized through offline advertising, visitors will type in the address directly, having circumvented search engines.

Referral traffic: This is traffic reaching your site from an external link on another site. Your data should show what link was used to arrive. Using this information, you’ll determine what’s working and what’s not and can adjust your search engine optimization strategy accordingly. Pay attention to bounce rates from these links as well. Do visitors come and stay for a while or realize they made a mistake and leave right away? If the bounce rate is high for some links, you may need to fine tune your external linking strategy.

Organic traffic: This is the traffic people go crazy over trying to be the number one listing on Google or other search engines. Anyone arriving at your site based on search engine results will show up here and, depending on your analytics tool may include sponsored links. Ideally, organic and sponsored links should be measured separately so you can better assess the value you’re getting from paid links. A good analytics package will tell you what keywords were used to drive the visitor to your site. Use the keyword to revise your web content for even greater optimization. Keyword data the language your visitors speak to tell you how (and possibly why) they arrived at your site. Listen to them carefully and take action.

Paid traffic: This is traffic generated from your pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns. For effective analysis, this data must show up separately from the other traffic types. With this data, you’ll measure the effectiveness of your paid efforts, make budgetary decisions and find problem areas to improve. While click-through rate is important, when it comes to PPC traffic, you want as high a conversion rate as possible to make the expenditure pay off.

Don’t be fooled by the hundreds of vendors offering web analytics tools. Decide what metrics are important for you to measure and then go shopping for the best package to deliver the data you need in an easy-to-understand format.
