How Cheap Internet Marketing Tools Was Hacked

The cause of the hack came from an outdated TimThumb version.  You can find this in a theme or a plugin named “timthumb.php” or “thumb.php”.    The hack edits the .htaccess and adds redirection code.  In this case, it was redirecting to someone’s own order form.  And this someone actually setup a amember delivery system with the download files.  No buyer would EVER suspect anything.  The only way I know is that I purchase software and products for my clients and I use my affiliate link to get credit.  When the affiliate commission didn’t show up – that’s when i knew.

What to Do If You’ve Been Hacked

Okay, if you suspect that you’ve been hacked – then, here’s an easy way to find out.  Look at the .htaccess file which should be 5 KB.  It’s a couple of lines of code.  However, if you see that it’s 500 bytes then you’ve been hacked.  When you click on it, it looks like a normal file, but scroll down down down until you see the “redirection instructions!”  You found the hack!  Backup all your files and let’s fix it.

How to Fix the Cheap Internet Marketing Tools Hack

Step 1:  Change the file permissions back to 644.

Step 2:  Delete All the Extra Shit in Your .htaccess file and save.

Step 3:  Delete these extra files found in your uploads directory:  _wp_cache.php, sm3.php, wp.php, sm3.php

Step 4:  Check Other Folders for These Files and Delete Theme

Step 5:  Replace Your Old Thumb.php files by Copying the New TimThumb Code.

A couple of years ago, I attended Fort Worth’s Art Festival and saw a bunch of cool art that I desperately wanted.  One was a huge “pop – art” piece of Clint Eastwood with real bullet holes and the other was a huge “Grand Canyon” scene.  The problem that I have with art is knowing if it will look good in a certain place.  The “Grand Canyon” artist said that he would come out and let us “borrow” it for a week.  He’ll hang it – leave it for a week – and come back in a week to see if we like it.   Good deal, eh?  He’ll come out – hang it – no money out of our pocket – and we can see if we like the piece.

Hi there.  It’s Kit Elliott with another great week for online profits.  For the past year, I’ve been secretly building up my residual income in an affiliate program that pays you two ways:  by the number of businesses you signup and the number of affiliates you refer.

6. It’s a honest program that works.

What is Matchrate Plus?

Matchrate Plus developed a marketing system around getting businesses to use their merchant service.  They are able to match the business’ current rate PLUS give them 25% of the merchant fees back to the business.

There are three other groups that I see succeeding with this.

1. People who love to network and recruit because you get paid on those people (i.e. network marketers, affiliate recruiters, JV brokers, affiliate trainers)
2. Retired people who need to supplement their retirement and quite frankly, need something to do.
3. Marketers who build front end offers around this.

So I didn’t want to promote this until I hit a decent residual income, and it only took 9 months.  I look at this like retirement income.  How many programs are legit that you can work for 3 to 5 years and have a nice residual income coming in for life (or as long as the businesses are in business).

I’m rating this program a 4 out of 5 stars.  I’m taking a star away for the simple fact that they keep changing their comp plan.  Sometimes it’s a good thing and sometimes it’s a bad thing depending how far along you are in the comp plan.  If they’d stop fucking around with it and create a “permanent” comp plan that stays the same so you can actually build marketing materials that don’t change every 2 months – then, it would get a solid FIVE stars.  I think they should reimburse you for materials that were printed beforehand – maybe that would motivate them NOT to keep changing things.  :0)

Today scam involves selling items on Craigslist. Here is the flow of the scam:

• Step 1: You would like to get rid of the red barn in your backyard so you place it for sale on Craigslist.
• Step 2: You receive an email from Judy Miller asking about it.
• Step 3: She’s ready to buy, but can’t inspect it because she’s too busy.
• Step 4: She’ll be sending the money by Paypal.
• Step 5: They sent more than necessary and Paypal has a hold on the funds.
• Step 6: Send the leftover to my pickup agent by Western Union.

That’s it! You just lost a quick $600 or more.

What to Look Out for on Craigslist Scams

Okay – here’s the number one rule of scams.  NEVER Western Union money to people you don’t know no matter how legit or how many times you have talked to them.  NEVER EVER!  It’s a scam.

Second – how many times have you bought a used item without looking at the item?  (especially a $2500 red barn).

Third – There is always an “overage” that will need to be paid to the scammer FIRST before you can receive your funds.
